Diary

Having come through 2011 after loosing my dad was really tough and yet here we are in 2012, with alot of hard graft ahead.  New harstandings for the camp site and improvements to the waste tanks and new water supplies to go in.   We look forward to making the improvements and I will try to keep this diary up to date.

Check out the new photos.

2012

January 2012 Work on the new hardstandings for the campsite began, although the bays were technically dug in November, the Cornish weather closed in and work was suspended, but there was plenty of other work to get on with fencing never stops.

February 2012 Hardstandings finally completed, as is a new stand pipe in the camping field, the cattle are now on new pasture elsewhere on the holding, just got to harrow, fertilise and seed the campsite field, just need it to stop raining

March 2012 Our new Geese arrived (Mr Fox decided he would help himself to the other two, time to get out Old Bessy and go hunting.  The campsite is ready for another busy season.

April 2012 Improvements to the water troughs, after all the snow, rain and the cattle the areas around the troughs resembled muddy pits, 803, hardcore and concrete.  Fencing and hedging, oh to joy miles of it, well keeps us busy and out of trouble.  First Turkey and chickens hatching, not to mention duck chicks and a broody goose, looks like a great summer.  Three cows pregnant, Mini Moon 2nd really confused as she is exspecting her first calf.

May 2012 Work has begun to restore our now collapsing barns, 20 years since the last needed attention.  I had better get the mixer out and start building, at least the cattle will have somewhere to go this winter.  Last of the pigs have gone and now awiting our Lop boar.  The geese are sitting on about 15 eggs and hopefully some will hatch.  Just have to dodge the showers, and with it having been the wetest April on record, just need fine, dry weather to be able to gat ahead.

June 2012 What has happened to flaming June, more like hurrican season, oh well, fencing is slowly getting done between when it is dry.  Last our boars will soon be lovely bacon and gammon joints.  Campsite beginning to fill up, just hope the weather improves.

July 2012 Rain, rain and yet more rain, will it ever stop? Had to rescue the pigs from a very muddy swimming pool, it took 6 large bales of straw to dry them out.

August, September, October, November, rain, rain, does it ever stop and the wind as well gusting to over 80mph.  Everythin is swimming in water, good thing the farm is on a hill and drains well, our hearts go out to all those not so fortunate, who got flooded. Did manage (just) to sort barn, cattle yard and crush in the pouring rain or what a joy farming is!!! Cattle all clear for another year, good one less worry.

December, cold dry, good can finally get some work done, mud, mud more mud

2013

January, February, March 2013, bloody freezing, plenty of fire wood to burn.  End of March mud finally began to dry up, no more tractor donutting then, shame, I was just beginning to enjoy myself, any one for rotovator racing??!!

April, warming up a bit, no it not coldest spring for 50 years, once in a life time then, oh well KBO, fencing bottom paddocks.

May, not tropical but pleasent, at least rain is better than last year.

June, July, mostly dry better than last year, campsite doing well, sorting out cattle yard.

The remainder of the 2013 season went well, and all the cattle are pregnant, will calve early next year (end of January), will have to play nanny at 3 in the morning, lol.

Christmas 2013 first goose for X-mas dinner, lovely.

January 2014, mild, windy (understatement) and wet, oh well seen it all before, when it is dry the days are cold but pleasent.
